This was an opinion list formed by students. You'll notice that they also listed, "all religious organizations," and "UN organizations;" it's not really fair to list such a broad spectrum under "unsuccessful."
However, it is a common thought that NGO organizations such as World Vision, CARE, MSF, USAID, etc., have hurt global communities more than actually helping them by increasing dependency on aid, feeding corrupt practices, and not being responsible with resources and culture-promoting practices.
There is an interesting This American Life episode (I think it's titled Island Time) that speaks about NGO's and their affect on countries that need aid. You might enjoy listening to it if you haven't heard it already.
I am curious, did they happen to say what made these "unsuccessful organizations"? Specifically, World Vision.
